Social Computing Platforms: Three Alternatives for the Enterprise Social computing platforms integrate enterprise 2.0 capabilities into a single platform (blogs, wikis, RSS, etc.) Three basic choices are available to the SMB and large enterprise. The first is to choose an established large enterprise application vendor's solution (IBM, Microsoft, Oracle); the second is to choose a startup's offering (Jive/Clearspace, Thoughtfarmer) and the third is to "roll your own" or build a customized application that provides all the functionality you're looking for based on components available from the open source community.

He also lead the company?s e-commerce and distribution efforts by building stronger relationships with travel suppliers. Prior to joining Orbitz, Samuel spent 16 years with American Airlines, where he served as vice president of Customer Technology, maintaining overall responsibility for the airline?s web site. He also managed the team responsible for development and operation of all of American?s customer-facing technology. Clara Shih joined Salesforce.com in 2006 and is currently the product line director for AppExchange, an online marketplace for software-as-a-service business applications. In this role, Clara oversees product marketing, product management, and product strategy functions for the site, described by Forbes Magazine as the "iTunes of business software" and one of the top innovations of 2006. Independently, Clara is the creator of Faceforce, the first enterprise social networking application built on Facebook which integrates Salesforce CRM and Facebook. Previously, Clara worked in strategy and business operations at Google and as a software developer at Microsoft. She is the founder and serves on the board of directors of Camp Amelia Technology Literacy Group, an East Palo Alto, California-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that develops and distributes technology education software and curriculum. Clara holds B.S. and M.S. degrees in computer science from Stanford University, as well as a Master's Degree in Internet studies from the University of Oxford, where she studied as a Marshall Scholar. Prior to IDC, Rachel was the Director of Product Management at Bitpass where she worked with media and publishing companies such as Disney, United Media, CanWest, and Ziff Davis to monetize their digital assets as well as with MSN and ninemsn to develop a digital rewards and purchasing infrastructure. While at Bitpass, Rachel was instrumental in developing Mperia, an internet music site.
