Tuesday, June 15, 2010, 10:50 AM-11:10 AM
Standalone collaboration environments and social networks have been the focal point in the market to date, but what is possible when you marry traditional enterprise software with newer enterprise 2.0 thinking? To start, you free people from the struggle to use enterprise systems and you help them find the right information for daily work. You put into their hands powerful, business-relevant content-including business processes, data, events and analytics -that combines structured data and unstructured data from social and online networks to bring together people, information and business methods in a cohesive online working environment. Marge Breya will discuss this “collaboration within business context” and demonstrate how it can move business forward. |

One has a heavy emphasis on social content and the other is focused on building a tight network of relationships. So which approach is the most appropriate? It depends a lot of the type of relationships desired with the targeted constituent group. It also has a huge impact on operations -- tools, integration needs, policies, processes, and the management techniques employed. Come find out why this distinction matters and learn how three different types of companies are approaching the challenge of socializing their organizations. |

Customer Networks Strategy #e2conf-45
Thursday, June 17, 2010, 9:30 AM-10:30 AM
Today's interaction models with customers are largely transactive in nature and typically begin and end with an individual promotion and sale. Enterprise 2.0 concepts offer the ability to build longer term relationships that can outlast each transaction and keep customers engaged over longer periods of times. This session will feature customers that have made the successful transition from a transactive model to a customer network approach and the benefits they see in the form of tangible revenue, cost reduction and overall customer satisfaction. |

From Idea to Delivery: Apps Don't Deploy Themselves #e2conf-12
Tuesday, June 15, 2010, 1:00 PM-2:00 PM
In this introductory session, we'll look at the application deployment lifecycle. Today, companies can choose from a wide variety of deployment options, from Software as a Service and Cloud Computing to virtual machines and turnkey appliances. Some approaches give you quick access to tools at the expense of flexibility, while others require serious investment but allow you to fine-tune them. This session will examine the dimensions along which any application can be measured--performance, affordability, customization, ease of use, security, and so on--and show you how to match your specific needs to various environments. Starting with a set of clearly defined business goals, we'll look at identifying the specific constraints of your business, selecting the right technology and platform, linking to existing systems, planning for rollout, tracking adoption, and validating the ROI.
The Inside-Out Organization: Connecting to Customers and Markets #e2conf-17
Tuesday, June 15, 2010, 2:15 PM-3:15 PM
Simply linking new applications to old data won’t transform the organization. The most important connections are those to outsiders—the customers, channels, and suppliers on which the business relies. But those audiences live elsewhere, and they’re not going to come to you easily. Often, you need to link to the places they interact and the platforms on which commerce happens.
The Politics of Delivery: Compliance and Governance #e2conf-22
Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 1:00 PM-2:00 PM
Everyone wants open, transparent communication between a business and its stakeholders. But free-flowing data poses its own risks, and if you’re deploying new applications that will be used in novel ways, it’s easy to run afoul of legislation or become embroiled in privacy issues. What’s more, some of the biggest impediments to deploying new applications begin internally, with IT conservatives suppressing new initiatives.
Platform Options in the New IT Landscape #e2conf-33
Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 2:15 PM-3:15 PM
We’re a long way from the days of centralized computing. Today, companies can choose from a wide variety of deployment options, from Software as a Service and Cloud Computing to virtual machines and turnkey appliances. Some approaches give you quick access to tools at the expense of flexibility, while others require serious investment but allow you to fine-tune them.
Delivery Strategies: The Road Ahead #e2conf-47
Thursday, June 17, 2010, 10:45 AM-11:45 AM
Shared, socialized knowledge, in the hands of employees and partners, will forever change the way we do business. But simply buying tools won’t bring the transformation we want. In this final session, the chairs of the Delivery Strategies track come together to discuss where enterprise application integration is going. We’ll look at emerging platforms, changes in mobility, and trends in internal and external connectivity to understand how IT tools are fundamentally changing companies. You’ll leave with a solid understanding of what businesses must do to ensure that technology initiatives deliver on the promises they make. |

Can Enterprise 2.0 Crack Through the KM Culture Barrier #e2conf-9
Tuesday, June 15, 2010, 8:00 AM-8:45 AM
Culture is a major component of KM. Lack of adequate culture and high barriers to adoption are the root cause of many KM failures. Enterprise 2.0 on the other hand promises to provide low barrier and organic approaches to knowledge capture, and embraces the open and transparent culture of Web 2.0. Is Enterprise 2.0 the salvation of KM or do cultural and adoption issues still loom? More importantly, is the functionality provided by these tools mature and robust enough to qualify as knowledge management, or only simple collaboration. This talk looks at the critical intersection of Enterprise 2.0 and KM, and asks the critical question – can E20 crack the KM culture and adoption barrier.
Implementing Enterprise 2.0 in a Controlled Environment: Lessons Learned #e2conf-44
Thursday, June 17, 2010, 9:30 AM-10:30 AM
This presentation explores best practices in deploying E2.0 in an environment that mandates control and privacy. Great promises of Enterprise 2.0 are transparency and access. While this approach to openness is viewed predominately as positive and a way to promote increased collaboration and knowledge exchange, there are certain situations in which security and privacy must be a part of an Enterprise 2.0 platform. This is particularly the case in the European Union (EU) where social profiles and other content are subject to privacy laws and regulations. Based on discussions with members of The 2.0 Adoption Council, this report provides a real-word view of managing privacy, including scoping the issue, identifying and quantifying obstacles, lessons learned and best approaches, hopefully paving the way for other organizations that have been trepidatious about embracing E2.0 because of privacy issues. |

Social Behavior, Usage Patterns, and Adoption #e2conf-37
Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 3:30 PM-4:30 PM
Regardless of how useful an application might be, its success is as much a factor of anthropology and sociology as it is of features and cost. To maximize the chances of success within any application initiative, you need an adoption strategy. Should you roll out the tool company-wide, or create false scarcity by limiting deployment? Should you have an extensive testing cycle, or instead plan for frequent upgrades and invest in feedback tools? |

Establishing ROI for Enterprise 2.0 - Imperative or Irrelevant? #e2conf-43
Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 3:30 PM-4:30 PM
CIO surveys show that Enterprise 2.0 technologies are high on Enterprise IT priorities. However, a recent survey of CIOs by the 2.0 Adoption Council shows that over 80% of CIOs have not been able to establish an ROI for E2.0 technologies. This is reflected in the widely varying pricing models of most E2.0 vendors, ranging from $3 per user to 100's of thousands of dollars for enterprise licenses. Value based pricing for E2.0 software requires a clear ROI measure. Contrast that with existing spend on E1.0 technologies in the enterprise, where clear value is reflected in healthy IT budgets. However, many E2.0 vendors avoid the "ROI" topic. Why the dissonance? Moderator Dion Hinchcliffe (ZDnet's Enterprise Web 2.0 Blog) and panel submitter Jitendra Kavathekar CEO of Twiki, Inc, put together a power house panel to discuss this important topic.

Using Chaos Theory Principals to Overcome Information Overload within the Enterprise and on the Web #e2conf-31
Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 1:00 PM-2:00 PM
With the addition of social media to the already increasing amount of Web content, companies are spending more resources trying to make sense of what is happening. In addition, the connections between formal, informal, structured and unstructured information are becoming more difficult to establish. It may only get worse with the advent of auto-generated content and other content "farms." In this session we will explore and discuss how the application of chaos theory to this issue can help break the silos of information and allow the emergence of meaningful awareness for better decision making. This new paradigm moves beyond Page Rank to reduce the impact of traditional SEO techniques that can elevate low quality content. We will look at how the visualization of connections between content related to a particular theme can reveal new relationships and help with the discovery and awareness of trends, both anticipated and unanticipated. |

Moderator Dion Hinchcliffe (ZDnet's Enterprise Web 2.0 Blog) and panel submitter Jitendra Kavathekar CEO of Twiki, Inc, put together a power house panel to discuss this important topic. |

Strategically Flexible - Avoiding the Silo Trap of E2.0 #e2conf-50
Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 8:00 AM-8:45 AM
It is now 4 years into the Enterprise 2.0 movement, 7 years into Enterprise Wikis, and 20 years since the birth of HTML and the web. Organizations have never had as much potential flexibility for collaboration, content, search and process tools to be used with their employees, partners, suppliers and customers - but even though core beliefs at the heart of Enterprise 2.0 are in the power of transparency and loosely coupled services, most organizations have blown themselves to bits through extremely DIS-integrated E2.0 (and prior era) solutions.
If you're headed down the path of a microblogging platform from one vendor, a wiki from another, a mashup platform from yet another, a community site from another, and a search engine from yet another - save yourself the time, money and resources BEFORE you commit a single cent, and set yourself up for faster, better and cheaper STRATEGIC flexibility. Or be ready to watch your competition/market fly by while you're busy playing Enterprise 2.0 Twister with a dozen, non-integrated, siloed solutions, and the fiefdoms that come with them.
If you've fallen into this trap already - how do you get out? and without breaking the bank, or getting fired?
Let's talk best AND worst practices - and how to balance the pragmatic and simple, with the need for a strategy that converge and unify your Enterprise 2.0 investments before it's too late.

Keynote - Business Value Is Everything #e2conf
Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 10:40 AM-11:00 AM
The fact that so much of the Enterprise 2.0 industry still focuses on issues of adoption is disheartening. It indicates that many E20 implementations lack a business focus and an overall understanding of where specific pain points inside an organization actually exist. Enterprise 2.0 is dead in the water if it doesn't help a customer book a deal, accelerate a project, or collaborate more freely in real-time. Socialtext CEO Eugene Lee will discuss what areas both practitioners and vendors should focus on to achieve business value from Enterprise 2.0, moving both companies, and the industry that serves them, forward. |

McAfee, Andrew
Andrew McAfee studies the ways that information technology (IT) affects businesses and business as a whole. His research investigates how IT changes the way companies perform, organize themselves, and compete. At a higher level, his work also investigates how computerization affects competition itself – the struggle among rivals for dominance and survival within an industry. He coined the phrase “Enterprise 2.0” in a spring 2006 Sloan Management Review article to describe the use of Web 2.0 tools and approaches by businesses. He also began blogging at that time, both about Enterprise 2.0 and about his other research. McAfee’s blog is widely read, becoming at times one of the 10,000 most popular in the world (according to Technorati). He also maintains a Facebook profile and Twitter account. McAfee’s book on Enterprise 2.0 was published in 2009 by Harvard Business School Press. In the July / August issue of Harvard Business Review McAfee and Erik Brynjolfsson published “Investing in the IT that Makes a Competitive Difference,” a summary of their research investigating IT’s links to changes in competition. This work was the first to reveal that competition began to heat up in the US in the mid 1990s – to become faster paced, more turbulent, and more winner-take-all – and that this acceleration was greater in industries that spent more on IT. This research continues, and continues to highlight that technology appears to be significantly reshaping the landscape of competition. McAfee is the author or co-author of more than fifteen scholarly articles and ninety case studies and other materials for students and teachers of technology. This work has convinced him that modern information technology is the most powerful tool available to business leaders, yet also the most misunderstood and under-appreciated resource at their disposal. In 2008 McAfee was named by the editors of the technical publishing house Ziff-Davis number 38 in their list of the “100 Most Influential People in IT.” He was also named by Baseline magazine to a separate, unranked list of the 50 most influential people in business IT that year. He was invited by Prof. Gary Hamel to join a ‘renegade brigade’ of thinkers in the task of assembling a set of Moon Shots for Management, which was published in the January 2009 Harvard Business Review. He speaks frequently to both academic and industry audiences, and has taught in executive education programs around the world. McAfee is currently a principal research scientist at the Center for Digital Business in the MIT Sloan School of Management, and a fellow at the Harvard’s Berkman Center for Internet and Society. He received his Doctorate from Harvard Business School, and completed two Master of Science and two Bachelor of Science degrees at MIT.

Evolution of E2.0 at IBM: The Frustrations and the Glory #e2conf-34
Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 1:00 PM-2:00 PM
It may come as no surprise that IBM has a long history with collaboration, and social computing, from text chat applications decades ago to enterprise collaboration tools of today. Enterprise 2.0 now reaching a new crescendo in IBM, in terms of deployment, and in the depth of thinking of how it is applied in the organization. If there is a Stage Zero—“How is this stuff any different than what my kid does with Facebook?”—Stage 1 is when people in the organization start recognizing: "We need our collaboration tools to integrate with our knowledge systems and enterprise databases." As the saying goes, the future is unevenly distributed, but I'd say we have cross the marker for Stage 1 with tens, and hundreds of thousands of users of many different collaboration tools. We are now a few years in our thinking process into Stage 2 —“The tools are great, but we need to ingrain enterprise 2.0 into our enterprise processes and operations." But, as you can imagine with 400,000 employees, 170 countries, thousands of complex products and services, such a transformation to the organization’s processes and operations is not an overnight phenomenon. We’re now trying to glimpse at a shining future of Stage 3: “How do we get people and organizational groups ready to work with fluid information and dynamic structures of the enterprise 2.0 future?” |

It also has a huge impact on operations -- tools, integration needs, policies, processes, and the management techniques employed. Come find out why this distinction matters and learn how three different types of companies are approaching the challenge of socializing their organizations. |

Should you have an extensive testing cycle, or instead plan for frequent upgrades and invest in feedback tools? |

Keynote - Enterprise 2.0 - Are CIOs Ready to Bite? #e2conf
Tuesday, June 15, 2010, 9:45 AM-10:15 AM
Enterprise 2.0 projects to date are largely departmental initiatives led by business leaders and technology strategists who voice frustration over legacy applications and IT’s slow response to initiate sweeping improvements. But many CIOs continue to cite concerns around security, privacy and a lack of enterprise-grade, interoperable solutions. While the stalemate continues, businesses are reaching a crisis point in information management and need workable solutions to keep pace with tools found in the fast-paced consumer web. Have we reached an impasse in business-wide adoption or are CIOs beginning to show signs of Enterprise 2.0 acceptance? |

Cisco IT's Journey to Enterprise 2.0 and Beyond - Sponsored by Cisco #e2conf-16
Tuesday, June 15, 2010, 2:15 PM-3:15 PM
It’s hard to pinpoint when the journey from Enterprise 1.0 to Enterprise 2.0 started inside Cisco, however over the last two years the pace of change has been accelerating and the transition in many areas has been dramatic. In this talk two of the IT Directors at the heart of that change will share their experiences. This talk will cover Cisco’s Enterprise 2.0 vision and the way their architecture has evolved to support that vision, it will also share some of the results seen so far and the important role that process and culture play alongside that of technology in enabling the business transformation. The journey is not yet complete of course and the talk will also give some clues as to the next steps Cisco is planning to take in a journey that they hope will soon take them beyond Enterprise 2.0. |

Engaging with Customers Through the Cloud: Introducing Microsoft TownHall for Enterprise - Sponsored by Microsoft #e2conf-27
Wednesday, June 16, 2010, 1:00 PM-2:00 PM
The growing usage of social networks and the emergence of the real-time web are changing the way customers expect to interact with brands. Customers are looking for experiences that are online, social, available to them 24x7x365 and accessible online via their PC, phone, tablet, television, dvr, or other internet connected devices. Brands want to answer that call and create experiences for customers that create deeper brand affinity and drive additional revenue. They want to do this in ways that are measurable and collect data that also drive deeper customer insight. Ideally, this would happen in a way that allowed an organization to gain insights on consumer activity across their brands. This session explores ways that the cloud, social, mobile, data, and BI can converge in a way that helps organizations and digital agencies engage consumers at scale, gain insight, and do it at a reasonable cost. The session will also include discussions of real world customer implementations and readily accessible customer solutions like Microsoft TownHall. |
