Enterprise 2.0 Conference Green Initiatives

The team for the Enterprise 2.0 Conference is working hard to implement changes that result in making us better global citizens. Enterprise 2.0 Boston is committed to fostering sustainability within business communities by preventing and reducing waste at Enterprise 2.0.  Along with our vendors & partners here are some of the steps that we are taking:

• Eliminating direct mail pieces, resulting in 300,000 fewer brochures than last year
• Choosing not to handout a conference tote bag which also reduces paper waste created by flyers inserted into the bags
• Water coolers are used all meal functions rather than individual bottles
• All presentation materials and evaluations are available only online
• Printing a pocket guide instead of a larger show guide
• Utilizing Online Exhibitor Portal instead of printing an Exhibitor Service Kit
• Show Management will be collecting any leftover giveaways from exhibitors to donate to Children’s Hospital Boston and/or other local non-profits who can utilize the items instead of exhibitors throwing them out.

Together with Show Management’s National General Service Contractor, Champion Exposition Services, Enterprise 2.0 Boston has taken the following steps to reduce waste of onsite materials:

• 95% of non-banner show management signage is printed on recycled material and will be donated to al local school for use in art projects after the event.
• Almost all of show management produced banners are produced on biodegradable material.

Here are some of the initiatives the Westin Boston Waterfront, our venue, is taking:

• Linen & towel reuse programs- we ask our stay-over guests if they require us to change linen or replace towels to reduce water usage and energy
• Energy conservation programs- shutting off all non-essential electronics in the evenings, i.e. computers, lights, photocopiers, etc.
• Recycle all light bulbs
• Motion sensor activated office lights
• Room attendants monitor the temperature in unoccupied rooms
• General Awareness Posters- highlighting policies of energy conservation for all hotel associates
• Single-stream recycling of the following items; cardboard, bottles, cans, paper, books, plastic, pallets and aluminum
• Hybrid Car preferred parking
• Switched from paper menus to e-menus
