Community Management: Inside the Enterprise

Ted Hopton Track Chair:

The key to successful social software adoption is community management, the discipline of getting loosely federated networks of individuals to engage and work in productive ways. It requires a unique set of skills that is very different than the commonly understood role of "management." Successful community managers need an understanding of human behavior to encourage, promote, and spur goal-appropriate activities without being directive or controlling. At a strategic level, communities are an ideal way to bring multiple individuals and teams together to form symbiotic and energizing relationships which generate value for the organization.

This track, along with the Community Management: Engaging External Audiences track, will explore both the tactical and strategic elements of community development and management through the eyes of seasoned practitioners. The track will focus on internal employee communities to help you to plan a community approach, select and train a community manager, create a methodology to measure community performance, develop and grow a community and understand how community fits into the larger business context.
